FAQs
These are the questions most frequently asked by new clients
How much does it cost to prepare a Will?
The answer depends on your assets and family circumstances. Until we meet with you, we can only provide an indicative estimate for your documents. Matters that may seem simple to you may be legally more complex, and vice versa. All new clients pay a legal advice appointment fee (ranging from $275 to $500) and then we can provide you with an estimate for your documents. Standard Will Packages start from $660 for an individual and $1,320 for a couple (for preparation of a Will and Enduring Power of Attorney). The price may vary depending on your business structures, investments, other legal entities, blended families, the size of your estate and your family circumstances.
What is the price for conveyancing at your firm?
The price for conveyancing depends on the type of property you are purchasing, your search requirements, your residency status/citizenship, the urgency of advice and whether you require a pre-contract review. We do not provide verbal quotes on the phone, because time and detail are required to prepare an estimate you can trust. We have invested in an online quoting tool that will guide you through some questions and produce a fee estimate that is comprehensive (including government fees and charges, search costs and transfer duty). You can access it here: Perfect Portal Conveyancing Quote As a lawyer-only firm, our price for comprehensive and high-level conveyancing services is competitively priced and reflects the level of skill and time we invest into your matter.
Who will I be working with?
We are a small team of two lawyers. Carolyn Ryder has over 20 years experience as a solicitor, and Brenna Simpson is a solicitor who has trained with Ryder Lawyers while completing her legal studies over 4 years. You will work with both solicitors throughout your matter, both to keep our costs affordable and for efficiency.
Do you work in small business law?
We offer commercial law services for small business owners including lease negotiation, preparation and disputes (for both retail shop leases and commercial leases). We can assist with the sale or purchase of a small business, either thorough an asset sale agreement or the sale of shares. We do not offer a service to draft your standard business terms and conditions, but can refer you to a specialist for this service. We also offer advice for partnership agreement negotiations and shareholder agreements.
Can you assist me with my divorce?
Yes, we can assist with your divorce. However, you will usually work firstly with us to resolve your property/financial separation through Consent Orders or a Court-Ordered outcome. We can assist with the preparation of Parenting Plans regarding your co-parenting after separation, but do not specialise in complex children’s matters or domestic violence.
How much is Probate at your firm?
The price for obtaining a Grant of Probate for a Will, or a Grant of Letters of Administration depends on the deceased person’s affairs, whether the estate is likely to be contested, the size of the estate, the circumstances of the death, whether the will is valid, and the level of support you require from our firm. We offer 30-minute estate information appointments during which we will review the estate, answer general questions and give you an indicative fee estimate for legal services. If our estimate is acceptable, we then ask you to sign a Client Agreement and prepare a formal, detailed fee estimate.
